Why Perform a Tooth Extraction?

Perhaps the most important trick to healing is rest. In the first 24 hours after a procedure, you must focus on recovery. However, make sure to keep your head propped up when lying down to prevent excessive blood flow to your surgical site.
Additionally, apply an ice pack to your cheek for 10-minute intervals several times a day to reduce swelling. After a tooth extraction, avoid using straws or doing strenuous activity. Any excessive pressure on your mouth causes pain and bleeding, prolonging the time your mouth needs to heal.
You can also use over-the-counter pain medication to aid in your recovery as needed.
