When coming in for a new dental treatment, it’s common for patients to be nervous. After all, the fear of the unknown is the root of many common phobias! But at Brockley Dental Center, there is nothing to fear. We are committed to delivering safe and effective dental care through patient-centered approaches that prioritize your comfort and well-being. With sedation dentistry to help you relax, clear communication beforehand, and cute therapy dogs to make you smile, we’ve got a solution for everyone. If you’re coming in for dental veneers, here is exactly what happens at the first veneer appointment!
What to Expect at Your Veneer Visit: The Step-by-Step Process
Dental veneers are thin shells of porcelain that we use to cover the imperfections of your smile. This cosmetic procedure provides a minimally invasive way to perfect your teeth, as each veneer is customizable. You can choose the shape, size, and color of your veneers to create a more uniform, brighter smile with the exact look you want.
At our office, the process for dental veneers is fairly simple. Typically, the whole procedure involves only four visits!
What Happens at the First Veneer Appointment?
The first visit is your diagnostic appointment. During this appointment, we’ll perform a thorough dental exam to assess your smile.
Dental veneers need a healthy and strong foundation, so any underlying issues like gum disease or tooth decay will require treatment first. Once your smile is ready for veneers, we will take impressions, photos, and X-rays to help design your custom teeth!
Usually, we recommend ten veneers to perfect your smile, as that’s typically the number of teeth that show when you smile. With our smile simulation, we’re able to design your smile and create a simulation of what it may look like after your veneer treatment.
What Happens at the Second Veneer Appointment?
At your second visit, we’ll prepare your teeth for veneers with a minimally invasive procedure! The process involves gently removing a thin layer of your front-facing enamel.
Afterward, we’ll provide you with temporary veneers to wear while your permanent ones are being fabricated. While wearing this set, you can request any adjustments you like to the shape, size, and color, which we will then incorporate into the final version.
What Happens at the Second Veneer Appointment?
During your third appointment, we’ll try on your veneers to ensure they fit perfectly and look as you want them to. If you still have changes you wish to make, we will either adjust them in the chair or send them back to the lab for alterations.
However, if you’re happy with their fit and appearance, we’ll cement them onto your teeth to revitalize your smile!
What Happens at the Last Veneer Appointment?
Finally, the fourth visit involves a bite check to ensure that your new veneers are properly aligned and functioning correctly. If your veneers hit each other when you bite or chew, that creates the risk of damaging your thin porcelain shells. Fortunately, we can just adjust your veneers to fit perfectly, providing a beautiful and functional smile.
Afterward, we recommend regular recall visits every six months for maintenance.
