Are you considering dental implants to replace missing teeth? You’re not alone—3 million Americans had dental implants in 2023, and that number is expected to steadily increase each year. However, just because they’re a popular treatment doesn’t mean everyone fully understands them. When exploring dental implant options, you likely have many questions: Do you need traditional or mini dental implants? How do you select the right implant dentist? What restoration options are available? Above all, one question often stands out: How much does it all cost? At Brockley Dental Center, we’re here to help you navigate the cost and benefits of mini dental implants, ensuring you make an informed decision for a healthier, more confident smile.
What Is a Dental Implant?
A dental implant is a titanium post that a dentist inserts through the gums and into the jawbone. It provides a solid base for artificial tooth restorations like crowns, bridges, and dentures. There are two primary types of dental implants to choose from. While they both replace missing tooth roots and support artificial teeth, they have key differences.
Traditional Dental Implants
Traditional dental implants are typically about 5 millimeters in diameter, requiring the dentist to make a sizable hole in the bone. The procedure begins with an incision into the gums to expose the underlying bone, where the implant is then embedded. After a lengthy healing period, the dentist attaches an abutment to the implant, which serves as a connector for the restoration. Following another healing phase, the final restoration can finally be secured.
This procedure can give you stable and beautiful teeth but at a steep cost. Traditional implants consist of multiple parts—the implant, abutment, and restoration—which drive up the price. Additionally, the small gaps between these parts can create spaces where bacteria can thrive, potentially requiring future treatment.
Mini Dental Implants
Mini dental implants, however, are less than 3 millimeters in diameter! That’s about half the width of a conventional implant. This size difference makes mini implants much less invasive, requiring no incisions or stitches. As a result, you can expect less discomfort and a quicker healing time with mini implants.
They’re also one-piece implants, which allows us to place them in a single visit and prevents bacteria buildup.
Mini dental implants are an ideal alternative to conventional implants, especially if a dentist has previously said you don’t have enough bone for traditional implants. Because of their smaller size, mini implants require less bone for placement. This makes them more accessible to patients suffering from bone loss.
On top of these remarkable benefits, mini dental implants also cost much less than traditional implants! Their price reduction is due to their smaller size, less invasive nature, single-visit placement, and quicker healing period.
Managing the Cost of Mini Dental Implants
While mini dental implants are a less expensive option than traditional implants, we understand that many patients have financial concerns. Unfortunately, many insurances don’t cover dental implants, but it can be difficult to understand exactly what your plan does cover. If you have any questions about your insurance coverage for dental implants, give us a call! We can help you make sense of your plan.
To ensure that our patients can access the best dental treatment options, we offer flexible financing through CareCredit, a third-party finance company. CareCredit provides short-term and long-term payment plans and 0% interest for 6, 12, 18, or 24-month installments.
At Brockley Dental Center, we believe that your financial situation shouldn’t stop you from receiving the dental care you deserve!
